CLASS EXPECTATIONS
At Lotus Gardens Yoga we see yoga as
an unparalleled path to peace and well being. The meaning of this 5,000
year old practice which originated in India is unity and discipline.
There are three major components of this practice: Pranayama (Breathing
Techniques), Dhyana (Meditation) & Asana (Postures). These three
practices in combination can produce profound physical, spiritual and
mental benefits. Many modern physicians not only recognize this truth
but recommend yoga for true well being.
At Lotus Gardens Yoga, every class provides a joyful and supportive
learning environment. Our time begins and ends with breathwork,
meditation, and deep relaxation. Postures are offered with
modifications so that every student may explore with comfort and
safety. All classes are taught by certified yoga instructors with a
minimum of 200 hours of training.
BENEFITS OF YOGA
Breathing Techniques improve
cardiovascular and pulmonary efficiency which directly increases blood
flow, improves elimination and helps rejuvenate the body at the
cellular level, helping us to feel and look healthier.
Meditation / Relaxation: Research conducted at the University of
Wisconsin and elsewhere has shown that meditation brings us into a
“happier” emotional state as well as increasing the
effectiveness of the immune system. Practicing silence in the present
moment instructs the parasympathetic nervous system to calm down, while
lowering the stress hormone cortisol. When we relax, we reduce the risk
of stress related ills such as high blood pressure, migraines, chronic
pain, even over-eating.
Postures improve skeletal alignment and range of motion of the joints.
Weakness in the muscular and skeletal systems leads to joint and muscle
pain in the low back, neck, shoulders, hips and knees. But even the
simplest of yoga poses can strengthen and increase flexibility
throughout the body, preventing or reversing these conditions.
